Shape the Conversation

Workshops create focused, participatory forums for emerging gaming and entertainment systems topics — where the field can debate methods, map open questions, and build the collaborations papers alone cannot start.

NGES 2027 invites researchers, students, and practitioners to organize workshops as the community evolves from Traditional game systems toward NGES. We especially encourage proposals spanning engines and platforms, player experience, XR and immersive systems, esports, AI in games, accessibility, and entertainment industry practice.

Under the theme “Immersive Play & Intelligent Worlds,” The 2027 conference examines how next-generation gaming and entertainment systems can deliver richer play, deeper immersion, and more meaningful shared experiences — through advances in systems, interaction, content, and player well-being. Workshops should address questions the main program cannot fully cover — contested methods, early research communities, and topics where immersive play and intelligent entertainment systems are still taking shape in practice.

Supported Formats

Strong proposals name their format explicitly and explain why it fits the topic. Supported activity types include:

Keynotes / Panels

Expert framing and moderated debate on contested NGES questions

Breakout Discussion

Small-group sensemaking, critique, and research agenda building

Hands-on Activities

Co-design, prototyping, method tutorials, and structured exercises

Paper / Position Sessions

Peer-reviewed or invited contributions with structured discussion

Half-day (3–4 hours) and full-day (6 hours) workshops are supported. Indicate your preference, expected audience size, and room or equipment needs in the proposal.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Potential to generate new research directions, methods, and lasting collaborations
  • Interactive format and demonstrated community interest in the topic
  • Timeliness, scholarly significance, and alignment with the 2027 theme
  • Organizer track record, team diversity, and capacity to deliver a well-run workshop
