From traditional game systems to NGES
The meeting point for researchers who design, build, evaluate, and study the next generation of gaming and entertainment systems.
2027 Theme · Immersive Play & Intelligent WorldsWhen worlds become more immersive and systems more intelligent, how do we craft play that is engaging, fair, sustainable, and worth sharing?

NGES 2027 brings together researchers who build engines and platforms, study players and creators, and shape the cultures of interactive entertainment — a shared venue for the technologies, experiences, and ecosystems defining the next generation of games.
The scope of NGES spans the full stack of next-generation gaming and entertainment systems — how interactive worlds are engineered, experienced, evaluated, produced, and culturally situated. We publish research that treats games and entertainment not only as content, but as complex sociotechnical systems connecting engines, platforms, players, creators, and industries.
Our program embraces work across layers: low-level systems for rendering, simulation, and networking; mid-level interaction, AI for games, and immersive interfaces; and high-level inquiry into design, player communities, esports, accessibility, ethics, and the creative economy. Submissions may draw on games research, computer graphics, HCI, AI/ML, XR, networking, multimedia, design research, media studies, and adjacent fields.
NGES especially values research that crosses traditional boundaries — combining engine or systems innovation with player evaluation, pairing technical advances with creative practice, or connecting empirical findings to industry and cultural impact. Whether your contribution is a novel game system, an immersive prototype, a large-scale player study, or a critical analysis of entertainment platforms, the common standard is evidence, rigor, and relevance to next-generation play.
Researchers are invited to submit work on foundational questions (how do we build responsive, intelligent interactive worlds?), applied domains (mobile, console, PC, XR, cloud gaming, live services), and urgent community challenges (accessibility, toxicity, sustainability, labor, and healthy engagement). If your research advances how gaming and entertainment systems are designed, built, or experienced, it belongs here.
NGES publishes systems papers, playable demos, player studies, and cross-disciplinary methods. Match your contribution type to a theme — from engines and XR to AI, live services, player experience, and the cultures of interactive entertainment.
