Professor Daniella Tilbury

Prof. Daniella Tilbury

Talk Title: Futures We Choose: Sustainability in the age of digital innovation

Prof. Daniella Tilbury is a policy expert, academic leader and changemaker credited with having developed the initial frameworks for sustainability in higher education (University of Cambridge 1990). She was Rector and CEO of the University of Gibraltar and held academic leadership and university research positions in Australia, UK and Hong Kong. Daniella was a member of the Board of WWF Australia that brought Earth Hour to the World in 2007 and has been actively involved in international initiatives that inspire transitions towards climate positive futures. She is a Professorial Fellow of the University of Cambridge and Council Member of the University of Girona and the UK government’s focal point at the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). She is also an expert adviser to the European Commission (EC) on green and digital transitions supporting policy development in AI, digital technologies as well as sustainability transitions.

Talk Title: Responsible Artificial Intelligence for Making Interactive Systems Explainable, Personalised, and Accessible

Prof. Fabio Paternò is Research Director at the Italian National Research Council, where he leads the Laboratory on Human Interfaces in Information Systems at the Information Science and Technologies Institute in Pisa. He has served as principal investigator in numerous international and national projects in Human-Computer Interaction. His current research interests include interactive smart spaces, accessibility, end-user development, human-centred artificial intelligence, and humanoid robots. He is an IFIP Fellow and a member of the ACM SIGCHI Academy.

Prof. Salman Avestimehr

Talk Title: Foundations of Human-AI Collaboration

Prof. Salman Avestimehr is Dean’s Professor at the University of Southern California, inaugural Director of the USC-Amazon Center on Secure and Trusted Machine Learning, and Director of the Information Theory and Machine Learning (vITAL) research lab in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is also co-founder of FedML, TensorOpera AI, and ChainOpera AI. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology. His research focuses on information theory, decentralized and federated machine learning, and secure and privacy-preserving learning and computing. He is an IEEE Fellow and has received numerous honors, including the IEEE Information Theory Society James L. Massey Research & Teaching Award, the PECASE award from the White House, the NSF CAREER Award, and several best paper awards.
